The Girls’ Polytechnic, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati, which was established in the year 1964, is a Diploma level technical institute run by the Govt. of Assam under the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam and is affiliated to the State Council for Technical Education, Assam. All the courses are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E), Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.. This is the oldest technical institution in the North East Region of India for women offering three years Diploma course in four different disciplines. The institute has been playing an important role in the field of spreading technical education among women.
In the Year 2004, Girls’ Polytechnic was renamed as Padmashree Chandra Prabha Saikiani Girls’ Polytechnic by the Govt. Assam. It is situated at the heart of the Guwahati city. It is well connected to both the railway station (3 Km.) and airport (28Km.). Moreover, Guwahati is the gateway to the North-Eastern Region of India and is well connected to all other sister states namely, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
Girls’ polytechnic has a campus covering an area of 26 bighas of land. It hosts Principal’s residence, Lecturers’ quarters, Staff quarters , Grade IV quarters, Girls’ Hostel (RCC three storied), Academic buildings (RCC double storied) housing class rooms, library, drawing halls, seminar hall, smart class room, language laboratory, workshop, auditorium, computer laboratory, students’ common room, pharmacy, Guest House, Community Development Through Polytechnic (CDTP) & community college.
