PCPS Girls' Polytechnic Library
The PCPS Girls' Polytechnic Library was established in 1964, alongside its parent institution, PCPS Girls' Polytechnic. It began with a small collection of books and was initially located at Chandmari with AEI. On August 15, 1975, the library was relocated to its current site at Bamunimaidan. Originally situated on the first floor, it was moved to the ground floor of the main building in 2005. Today, the library spans 320 square meters and offers seating for 72 readers..
Collections :
The library houses a diverse collection of over 15,000 resources, including textbooks in engineering, humanities, art and architecture, as well as reference books, novels, storybooks, biographies, photography books, and more. It also maintains 20 bound volumes, along with a limited number of newspapers and journals.
The Government of Assam periodically sanctions funds for the procurement of books. Additionally, the institute acquires essential titles using student funds. The library also gratefully accepts donated books from various sources.
Library Hours
The Library is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
Rules and Regulations
The library follows an open access system for all readers. Students must leave their bags at the property counter before entering the Library. Upon entry, they are required to sign the visitor’s register, providing their name, branch, semester, time of entry, and the purpose of their visit.
Silence must be strictly maintained within the library premises at all times.
To borrow books, students must obtain library membership by submitting a photocopy of their identity card.
Book Issue System for Students As per library policy:
Students in the 1st and 2nd semesters may borrow up to two textbooks at a time.
Students in other semesters may borrow up to three textbooks at a time.
All issued books must be returned within three months. A late fine of Rs. 2 per day per book will be charged for overdue items.
Additionally, students belonging to the STP and SC categories are entitled to borrow one extra textbook, provided under the Book Bank Scheme by the Directorate of WPT & BC, Assam.
Library membership will be canceled upon the completion of the student's course.
Book Issue System for Teachers
All regular and permanent faculty members are eligible to borrow up to 10 books at a time for a period of six months.
Part-time faculty members may also borrow books by depositing a security amount of Rs. 1,000. This amount will be refunded upon the completion or termination of their service at the institute, subject to the return of all borrowed materials.
Library Services
The library offers the following services to its users:
1. Lending Service – Circulation of books and other materials to registered members.
2. Reference Service – Assistance in finding information and using reference materials.
3. Reading Facility – A quiet and comfortable space for reading and study.
